In 2024 the Middletown Township Historical Society loaned this original Lightfoot Map of Monmouth County to the Township of Middletown. It is on display in the courtroom in Town Hall at 1 Kings Highway, and is able to be viewed during business hours or other times when the courtroom is open to the public. The map is located in the entryway leading from the main building.
This first wall map of Monmouth County (1851), which has been hand-colored in some sections, is significant for its size and attention to detail. It is of particular interest to researchers because it lists landowners, public roads, and important buildings. The Middletown Township Historical Society gratefully accepted the map as a donation from June Truex Hoffmire in the mid-1980s, in memory of her father William Truex. The map was restored and reframed in 2023, with most of the funding generously provided by the Township of Middletown. Photos courtesy of Tara Berson
